Kendra Merritt
author : Kendra MerrittI’ve been making up stories for as long as I can remember, but I started my first novel when I was fourteen because I had an old computer in my room and characters in my head.\n\nWhen I was twenty-one I had a scoliosis surgery and a poorly placed epidural left me with an incomplete spinal cord injury. While I was in the hospital learning how to walk again, I realized that all the heroic characters I read about could run and jump and swing a sword. I never saw any that looked and walked like me.\n\nSo, I started writing familiar stories from unfamiliar points of view, highlighting heroes with disabilities. My own experience with partial paraplegia has shown me you don’t have to be able to swing a sword to save the day.\n\nBy Wingéd Chair, a retelling of Robin Hood where Maid Marion kicks butt from a wheelchair, was awarded first place in the science fiction/fantasy category of the Pikes Peak Writers’ Zebulon contest and will be available November 2018. It is the first in a new series called Mark of the Least. View more >>Kendra Merritt Book Series
